There are three sets of rules on Verpets: Site Rules, Forum Rules, and Shoutbox Rules, and this page is dedicated to informing you of those rules and going into a more thorough explanation of rules that seem to cause confusion amongst newer users.
Site Rules
1)Only one account per person is allowed. If we observe you using multiple accounts, all accounts on your IP will be banned. If you are using a shared or public computer, inform a staff member or make a note of it on your profile to prevent any issues.
As this rule states, you are only allowed to have one account. This does not mean one active account, but one account period. This does mean that you are not allowed to have or use side accounts for storing pets, items, Verpoints, or anything of the sort, and doing so puts all of your accounts at risk. However, f you desire a new username, you may mail an administrator prior to making the account and ask permission. It is up to the discretion of the administrator whether or not to allow a change, and it is your responsibility to transfer any items/points/pets over yourself before the administrator bans your account. Any Pet Slot Keys you've used, badges or avatars you've earned, etc. can not be transferred to the new account.
2)There shall be no cheating or abusing glitches of any sort. If you find a glitch, you must report it immediately using the Contact Us link located at the bottom of every page. Abusing glitches creates an unfair advantage and ruins the fun for other players. Cheating or failing to report a glitch will result in an automatic account ban.
3)Harassing other users is not allowed.This includes flaming, insulting, begging for items/Verpoints, and continuing to contact a person who has expressed wishes to be left alone.
This is a rule commonly broken by users who come from sites that allow users to be rude and unkind to each other. The harassment rule is VERY strictly enforced, and if you are seen being rude or insulting any user- regardless of whether or not it is reported- you will be punished for it. Also included under harassment is trolling, which occurs when a user joins a site specifically to be a nuisance and ruin the experience for others. Trolls are not welcome on the site, and if you are observed trolling, you will be banned and not allowed to return.
4)Leave the Staff to do their Jobs. Telling others that you are a staff member or performing staff duties of any sort will result in a warning (this includes moderating the forums). Insulting a staff member will result in an automatic account ban. Do not argue with staff members. If you feel a staff member is not properly doing their job, report it either directly to an administrator, or via the Contact Us link located at the bottom of every page. In addition, Staff will NEVER ask you for your password. Do not give it to anyone under any circumstance.
There is a difference, however, between performing staff duties or "backseat modding," and informing your friends of the rules to prevent them from getting a warning. Backseat modding occurs when you approach and order around a user as if you were a staff member. For example: If a user is using caps lock in the main area of the shoutbox and you post "Watch the caps," you are giving them an order to stop using caps lock, and therefore backseat modding. However, if that same user is abusing caps lock and you say "We're not allowed to post in all caps on the SB. If you keep doing that a moderator will warn you," you're being a helpful user and probably keeping them from being reprimanded by staff.
5)Verpets is an English-Speaking site. Do not post in other languages on public areas of the site. Speaking in other languages is fine in mails and comments, but it is not for the forums/shoutbox.
6)Excessive swearing is not allowed. Words like "Crap" and "Hell" are okay, but only when used in moderation. The staff are free to determine what is excessive at their own discretion.
7)Discussion of inappropriate topics is not allowed. This includes posting sexual, racist, insulting, etc topics on the forums, shoutbox, Vermail, or user comments.
Another area of the site where you should be considerate when posting material is in your YouTube videos. While we are generally lenient with said videos, please leave a warning on your profile if your video contains anything that could be deemed offensive such as language or content, and do not post videos that are blatantly offensive.
8)Excessive Chatspeak and Caps abuse is not allowed. Refrain from using chatspeak and caps lock on the forums, shoutbox, and IRC. Mild chatspeak and caps use is permitted, but excessive use will have consequences. Determining what is excessive use is at a staff members discretion.
9)There shall be no advertising of other sites. While discussion of other sites is acceptable, you may not advertise them, unless the site is a Verpets fansite. In addition, linking to sites that contain inappropriate material is not allowed.
This is a very commonly-broken and misunderstood rule. Advertising is not limited to someone just posting a link to the website and saying "hey, join this site, it's awesome!" If your sole purpose of bringing up discussion of a site is to promote a site and get people to join it, then you are advertising, and if staff observe you doing so, they will say something about it and you may receive a warning for doing so.
10)Plagiarism is not allowed. This includes claiming someone elses art, writings, poems, or Veretteer submissions as your own.
Also falling under plagiarism is art theft. Stealing art does not only include claiming someone else's art as your own, but also taking images that another user has made and using it without asking their permission.
11)There will be no selling of Pets Selling Pets for Verpoints, items, or other forms of currency is not allowed, and will result in both parties being warned or possibly banned. And while pet trading is allowed, pets may ONLY be traded on a 1:1 ratio.
12)Scamming is not allowed. Stealing items, verpoints, or pets from other players is strictly against the rules, and anyone found to be scamming will receive an automatic account ban.
Forum Rules
Verpets is a predominately English speaking enviorment. Do not post in other languages on public areas of the site. Speaking in other languages is fine in mails and comments, but it is not for the forums.
No offensive topics or language. Purposeful use of insulting language or topic choices, with intent to harm an individual or otherwise, will be removed without prior warning. Language should be kept to a level suitable for younger users of the site and posts will, if required, be edited by staff.
No excessive use of chatspeak or capitals. While moderate use of both is acceptable, a post that uses these heavily can be disruptive to the board.
No flooding or spamming of the forums. Multiple threads on the same topic, multiple posts in a row and repeated posting of one or two word answers where not suitable fall under this general rule.
Also included in spamming is "bumping" threads, as these are illegitimate posts that only bump down threads that are actually active. While we will generally turn a blind eye to the occasional bump, if your thread is bumped or you beg for bumps to the point where it becomes excessive, your thread will be locked.
No provoking or harassing of other users. Intentional starting of disputes or hassling of another user is not permitted/; if you are in a disagreement do not allow it to escalate. Stop posting/, leave the board and contact a member of staff if the problem continues.
Organisation, regulation and decisions regarding the forums are up to the discretion of the staff members. Using the forums means you agree to their decisions and are comfortable with their abilities and control. If a user is found to be breaking the terms and conditions then staff members are within their rights to perform any of the following actions singularly or as a group:
Editing of posts, including boards. Staff may access a post to edit the title, remove profanities or correct other problems.
Locking of topics. If a board has reached it's purpose or is otherwise breaking the terms and conditions, staff are able to lock it. Locking of a board removes the ability to reply to it. All boards are automatically locked after 30 days.
Moving of topics. If a thread is deemed to be better suited in another forum, a staff member may move it. A warning may be issued to you, but is not required.
Deletion of topics and posts. Posts and topics can be deleted with no warning required to the user who created them.
Issuing of an official warning. Official warnings are issued after a severe breach of conduct or after repeated offenses.
Permanent removal from the site. Removal from the site does not require a prior warning and will be given after three warnings or after extreme breach of conduct.
Shoutbox Rules
1) Posts must be made to the allocated areas of the Shoutbox. Advertisements, chatspeak and roleplaying must be done strictly within the provided areas.
2) Excessive posting or use of CAPs in any Shoutbox room is prohibited. Excessive posting is deemed as more than three posts in an uninterrupted row. Excessive use of capitals is decided at the staff members discretion.
3) Arguing or any posts deemed offensive will be deleted. Use of the Shoutbox must follow the general Terms and Conditions of the Verpets site. Any topics deemed unsuitable for minors will be removed and the offender dealt with.
4) Users may be excluded without prior warning. Staff members are not required to provide warning or reasons for any removal from the Shoutbox.
5) Advertising is only permitted in the Advertisement Room of the Shoutbox. Please only one Ad per page. Excessive posting of advertisements will result in a deletion of posts and disciniplary action.
The reason for this rule is because posting multiple times does not serve any real purpose and only bumps off the advertisements of other users.
