Once you've mastered how to navigate the site, it's time to find your companion. This section of the guide will give you tips on how to find and care for your brand new Verpals.
Finding Your Verpets

Unlike many other sites, you don't simply pick your Verpet from a list, but rather you explore for them. Each different area on the Explore for Pets map holds different species of pets, each one itching to go home with you. There are over thirty-five species of Verpets that you can find just by exploring, so you may want to search around for a little while before you make your choice. There are, however, a few species of pets that cannot be found by exploring. Those pets are considered "special" or "restricted" pets, and the ways to obtain them varies. You could have to feed your pet a certain item, complete a quest, or even earn enough Frequent Shopper Points to buy it from the Frequent Buyer Shop.
Caring for your Verpet

Once you have your Verpet, you'll need to care for it to keep it happy and healthy. If your Verpet is hungry, you can buy food either from the Food Shop in the main shopping area, or from other users. If your pet is unhappy, you can buy it toys from the Toy shop, or take it to the
Park and play for free. If you lose a battle with your pet or run into a less-savory Verpets NPC, your pet may become injured, and you will need to heal it at the
Medical Center. Your pets will never die or run away if you don't care for them, but would you really go two or three weeks without feeding your dog or cat?
Coloring your Verpet

If you'd like to make your pets stand out in a crowd, you can also change their color. When exploring for pets, you can find them in one of four colors- blue, red, yellow, and green. These four colors, along with six additional "basic" colors like black or orange can also be attained by using an Essence on your pet. The Essences stock in the
Potion Shop. To change your pet into one of the rarer and more expensive colors, you have to complete a certain task dependent upon which color you would like to achieve. For example, the Viral Syringe, which turns your pet the Viral Color, is obtained from completing a quest for Nurse Rachley, and the Skull of Death, which turns your pet the Death color, can be bought from the Frequent Buyer Shop during certain times of the year.
Pet Interactions

Once you have your pets, they'll need friends- or maybe your pet would prefer enemies? A close companion that they go everywhere with? On Verpets, they can have all three! If you would like for one of your pets to be buddies or enemies with another user's pets, you can send the request by going to that pets page, selecting your pet from a drop-down list, and selecting whether you would like to be buddies or enemies. If you would like to make your pet companions with another user's pet, you must first make your pet that pet's buddy, and then the option will appear.
From your
My Pets page, you can accept pending requests that have been sent to your pets, as well as edit the actions that your pet's buddies, enemies, companions, and even pets that have no relation to your pet at all can do to your pet. To accept or reject requests, just click on the appropriate link next to the pet of yours that the request was sent to, and from there you will be able to both see the requests and the pets that are already your pet's buddy, enemy, or companion.
Actions are a set of acts that other users' pets can perform on your pet. To edit your pet's actions, simply click on the Actions link located to the right of the pet you would like to edit. From there, you can create a custom list for your pet's buddies, enemies, companion, and even actions that random pets can do to your pet. For example, you may want your pet's companion to be able to send hugs to your pet, whereas its enemies could be able to kick your pet. There are over one hundred different actions to choose from, so there is something for every type of pet!
If you'd like to give your pets a custom profile, simply go to the
My Pets page and click the "Edit Profile" link next to the pet whose profile you would like to edit. From there, you can click on any of the various module titles to make them appear, then drag the module anywhere in between the three columns. You can also enter custom CSS that will appear on your pet's profile in the large box to the top-left of your screen.
