So, you've found your way around the site, created a pet, and learned a few tips on how to make Verpoints. The next think you would probably like to do is make friends around the site. Listed below are a few tips for doing so in the Do's and Don't's of making friends on Verpets.
Do's
Introduce yourself on the forums and the shoutbox. Let people know you're out there!
If there's a conversation going on in the shoutbox or in the forums, jump right in. Don't be shy about letting users get to know you.
If you don't see any real conversation going on, start one! This is a great way to find users who share your opinions and your interests.
ALWAYS be polite and courteous to all the users you come across, even if you find you don't like them at all. If you find someone you disagree with, keeping your differences civil will make you appear more balanced and easy to get along with to everyone else.
Be active! This is probably the easiest way to stumble across people you'll get along with and build strong relations with. Participating in site events, or even just being active in conversations on the forums and shoutbox will get you noticed in good time.
Don't be afraid to update your profile with some information about yourself before you go on a friend hunt. When you post anywhere on Verpets, your username will link to your profile, and users may venture over there to find out a thing or two about you, and you can do the same with any user you see posting. This is a great way to passively exchange information with a user, and if you see you have something in common with them, you can send them a Vermail or a comment and strike up a conversation about it.
Don't's
Sometimes, your first reflex upon seeing a user you think you'd get along with is to send them a friend request first and get to know them later. Unfortunately, doing so is very taboo, and if you send someone a friend request before they know who you are may end up agitating them and making them not want to be your friend at all.
Often times when you are new to a site, your first attempt or two at socializing with other users is unsuccessful, either because the users in question fail to notice your posts, or just because they're being rude and ignoring you for the sole reason that they don't know you. If this happens to you, don't become discouraged and get upset! If the users continue to ignore your successive attempts to enter a conversation, just try again later with a different group of users.
Don't intentionally be rude or unkind to other users. Of course you already knew that one though! Just have a good time and do your best to get along with all of the other users.
